Felixstowe Christmas Day Dip

Are you brave enough to have an early morning dip on Christmas Day?

On Sunday 25th December hundreds of St Elizabeth Hospice supporters will be taking part in the annual Christmas Day Dip in the sea off Felixstowe. Registration has opened so if you are thinking of taking the plunge sign up online today!

Last year around 200 people took up the challenge to raise money for the Hospice and around 300 dippers are expected this year.

Many find it a good way of starting Christmas Day, which can be a difficult time for someone who is grieving.

St Elizabeth Hospice’s senior community fundraiser Rachel Maidment said, “Christmas is a lovely time of year to give something back and remember a loved one. The Christmas Day Dip has grown in popularity every year and this year we hope it will raise £40,000 to help us to continue to support people in Suffolk who have a progressive illness from which they will not recover.

“Why not come along first thing, do your dip with friends and family watching, then go home to open your presents and enjoy your Christmas dinner. What a great way to start the festivities.”

At 10am when the horn sounds everyone will enter the cold sea opposite Manning’s Amusements on Sea Road. Mulled wine and minced pies will be served afterwards.

The registration fee is £5 per person and participants are asked to raise sponsorship. Participants can opt to pay £10 to register and receive a Christmas Day Dip T shirt.

Last year the event raised over £35,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice, an independent charity that costs £6.6 million a year to run to provide services free of charge in Suffolk.
